Brass can be worn anytime, all the time. Some experience a slight reaction to the metal. It's natural, it isn't causing any harm. Over time and wish use of oils, creams, etc. brass will require a polishing. It doesn't lose the gold color, it just needs periodic TLC! Google has several suggestions for cleaning brass at home and you're always welcome to ask me!
